Be sure to ask if the surgeon is Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, the only board that governs the training of surgeons in the art and science of plastic surgery. The breast surgeon should also explain any risks involved in the surgery. Should a complication occur, remember that physicians certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery are well trained not only in plastic surgical procedures, but also to treat a wide variety of minor complications, so that they do not become major problems.

Ask to see before and after photos of patients who have had the same surgery you are considering. Are the results tailored for each patient, or does the breast surgeon have a "signature look" that's recognizable? You want your surgical results to be customized for your body.
