eneral Frequently Asked Questions:

Am I a good candidate for breast surgery?
If you are in good health and are generally happy with your body, you are a good candidate for breast augmentation surgery. Dr. Hendricks finds that women who have realistic expectations of the surgery are most satisfied after the procedure. Patients must also be aware that breast augmentation surgery, although cosmetic, is an operative procedure requiring ample recovery time. He generally does not recommend having breast enhancement surgery at the request of anyone other than the patient (e.g. boyfriend or husband).

What can breast augmentation surgery do for me?
There are many procedures performed under the general category of breast surgery. These include breast augmentation, mammoplasty breast reduction and breast lift. During augmentation, implants are placed under each breast to increase size and reshape it. In breast reduction, tissue and fat are removed. Breast reduction is usually performed on women who experience physical or psychological discomfort due to their large breast size. In a breast lift, the breasts are raised to create a more youthful looking bust line.

Are breast implants safe?
The breast implants currently in use have all been approved by the FDA.

Will I have to take a lot of time off?
Breast augmentation surgery is usually performed under a general anesthetic and requires incisions and stitching, so you can expect to spend some time recuperating. The amount of time for recovery depends on each patient. However, improvements in surgical techniques have lessened the amount of time needed before normal activities can be resumed. In most cases, you will be up and about in a few days and will be back to your routine in about a week or so.

Will people notice that I've had breast surgery?
If the surgery has been done well with natural looking results, people usually think that you look well-rested, have lost weight or stepped up your exercise program. Your increased self-confidence will make others think that you look younger or have more energy.

Is breast surgery covered by insurance?
If the breast surgery is for cosmetic enhancement (augmentation or lift) it generally will not be covered by insurance. However, if there are medical issues involved, such as severe back or neck pain caused by large breasts, your insurance may cover the surgery. It is best to check with your insurance company before undergoing any breast surgery.
