Orange County Breast Reduction

ould I be a good candidate for breast reduction surgery?
Very large breasts can cause various problems, such as:

  • Back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Skin irritation
  • Breathing problems

Besides these, the weight of large breasts can make the bra straps bite into the shoulders and can inhibit athletic activities. If you have these problems and would like to reduce the size of your breasts, and as well, if you are:

  • Fully developed
  • In good general health
  • Not pregnant

you could be a good candidate.

The first step would be to consult with an experienced plastic surgeon, so as to get your questions answered and gain a clear understanding of what the breast reduction surgery can accomplish for you.

What are the risks of breast reduction?
Breast reduction surgery is typically a safe procedure when done by a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon. But all surgery brings a certain amount of risk. The most serious risks would be:

  • Infection
  • Excess bleeding
  • A reaction to the anesthetic
  • Permanent numbness

Besides risks, there’ll be certain consequences that you need to accept going in.

  • Whenever the skin is incised, there’ll be a scar, though after a breast reduction they’ll be covered by swimsuits and bras

Most risk can be significantly reduced by taking good care of yourself after surgery, and following your surgeon’s instructions.

Are the results of breast reduction permanent?
The results are long-lasting, but breast size can change for several reasons:

  • Pregnancy
  • Hormonal activity
  • Weight increase or decrease

Once you get beyond the initial recovery stage you’ll be very pleased with your new shape and new freedom of movement. You’ll probably find that your clothes will flatter you more and your proportions and general image will look and feel better.

When can I go back to work?
Unless you have a particularly vigorous job, you can return to work after about 10 days to 2 weeks. For a few weeks more than that, you’ll probably find yourself getting more tired than you used to. Your plastic surgeon will give you instructions about when to resume normal activities.

What is gynecomastia?
Gynecomastia means enlarged male breasts. It’s been linked to:

  • Extra glandular tissue
  • Extra fat (or both of these)
  • Drinking excess alcohol
  • Smoking marijuana
  • Taking anabolic steroids or any medications with estrogen

To flatten them and give the man a more male contour, glandular tissue is removed through a small incision near the areola. Fat can be removed with liposuction, again with the cannula inserted near the areola.

It’s usually an outpatient procedure taking anything from about 1 hour to several hours. Incisions can be made either around the areola and these same incisions can be used for a liposuction cannula if one is used. When necessary, excess skin will be removed.

A good candidate for gynecomastia breast reduction surgery would have firm skin, elastic enough to reform itself around the new contour. If you’re overweight you’d be asked to first try diet and exercise to shrink the breasts.
