Do you have hospital privileges to perform this surgery?
Even if your cosmetic surgeon is performing the plastic surgery in his or her clinic, it is important to ask about hospital privileges. A cosmetic surgeon who has hospital privileges has demonstrated a level of skill and competence that meets the hospital's strict standards.

Is the surgical facility accredited?
There are two major organizations that accredit surgery facilities. Both groups adhere to rigid government standards for cleanliness and safety. If the cosmetic surgery facility is affiliated with a hospital, it must by law be fully accredited. If you are considering a procedure in a physician's office, ask if the doctor's operating facility is accredited and by which organization.

What should I expect during recovery and how long will it take?
The answer to this question depends on the type of plastic surgery you are having. However, your cosmetic surgeon should be able to give you a detailed description of what you can expect during the post-operative period including bruising, swelling, discomfort and resumption of activities.

How much will the plastic surgery cost?
The cost of any cosmetic procedure has three components: the cosmetic surgeon's fee, the anesthesiologist's fee and the operating room fee. When you are comparing costs between physicians, be sure to include all three components when making comparisons. Also, remember that you can always find someone who will perform your procedure for less money. However, a complication that occurs when a less expensive surgeon has performed your procedure is never a bargain, regardless of how much money you saved.
